Discover how Dream Gardens USA executed a high-end landscape overhaul for a Tudor-style home on Lookout Mountain, TN. Learn about our cold-hardy plant selections and low-maintenance garden design solutions for challenging mountain environments.
Following extensive renovations, this beautiful Tudor-style home on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, required a complete landscape overhaul. The primary challenge was designing a garden that could withstand the cold, harsh winds coming off the nearby mountain bluff during the winter months. The client’s vision was for the historic house to remain the star of the property, necessitating a design that would complement, not overpower, the classic architecture.
Our design approach focused on utilizing lower-profile shrubs to provide structure and enhance the home’s architectural details. We selected Japanese Plum Yew for its evergreen structure and hardiness, along with the classic “Annabelle” Hydrangea, which offers large, beautiful blooms without obstructing the home’s facade. The client desired a soft color palette of blush pink to white, so we incorporated a selection of perennials that bloom in these lovely, muted tones, including Garden Phlox, Camellias, and Astilbes.
To create a low-maintenance garden in the front yard, we focused on minimizing lawn space and maximizing the use of ground covers and hardy perennials. We incorporated “Autumn” Fern for its texture and seasonal interest, along with ground covers such as Lamium and Ajuga. This approach not only reduces the need for mowing and watering but also creates a lush, layered garden that is both beautiful and practical.
